Letter from the Pastor
My dear friends,
As the Catholic population continued to grow in Cambridge, St. Paul’s Parish was established in 1875 in historic Harvard Square. Soon, the community was well served by the Sisters of St. Joseph in the newly established grammar school, and visionary pastors and parishioners began to shape a place of faith, worship, intellectual growth, and vibrant social life.
This year, 2025, we celebrate our 150th anniversary, with our motto being “Credo”, “I believe.” Our life and mission today reflect the hopes and dreams of our ancestors. It is an added blessing that our anniversary coincides with the Jubilee Year being celebrated throughout the Catholic world, along with the 1700th anniversary of the promulgation of the Nicene Creed. St. Paul’s is renowned for its committed parishioners, its extraordinary liturgy and music program (anchored by the St. Paul’s Choir School (1963)), and home to the Harvard Catholic Center (1893) and Harvard Catholic Forum (2020).
You’ll see that the activities for this anniversary year reflect the threads that weave through our daily life. There will be Masses, lectures, musical events, opportunities for social gatherings, and outreach to those in need. We have also asked religious communities with affiliation to us to pray for us daily.
Please take a look at the schedule of events and be sure to mark your calendars. Updates will be announced as the year continues.
Please pray for St. Paul’s Parish that we will continue to be faithful to our vocation: “The Church of the Living God; the Pillar and Ground of Truth.”
God bless you,
Rev. William T. Kelly, S.T.D.
Pastor and Senior Chaplain

Fr. Kelly's Letter to the Communities
My friends in Christ, My name is Fr. Bill Kelly, and I am the pastor of St. Paul’s Parish in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA. This parish is also the home of the famous St. Paul’s Choir School (the only Catholic Choir School in the United States) as well as the Harvard Catholic Center, which serves the Catholics of Harvard University. This year, 2025, our parish is celebrating its 150th anniversary. We have many events planned, addressing the spiritual, intellectual, social and artistic dimensions of our parish life. We are also grateful that we share this anniversary year with the Jubilee Year of Hope designated by Pope Francis, as well as the 1700th anniversary of the Nicene Creed, both of which have helped us to approach this year’s celebration. In fact, the motto for our parish anniversary is Credo. I am writing to ask a favor. Would your community be kind enough to add St. Paul’s Parish to your intentions throughout this year? To have women and men religious communities praying for us would be a great comfort and a reason for our hope. The mission of St. Paul’s, with its global reach, plays a humbling role in the spread of the Gospel, one that needs to be protected and nurtured by prayer. I hope that you can assist and support us in whatever way possible. I would love to be able to relate to our community the ways that others are praying for us. If you have the opportunity to respond in whatever way you like, it would be great to hear from you. Thanks for taking the time to consider this request. Know of our prayers for you and we rely on yours. St. Paul, pray for us! In the Name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Rev. William T. Kelly
